Malleus Maleficarum
- journal and reports of a witch hunt in the city of damned souls and the wicked.
by High Inquisitor Luis Alonso de León.
Upon entering the City of the damned, I had an eerie feeling about it's alleyways and closing walls, there is a lot of evil stirring around here, forces to be reconed with...
First off, I should start with a small introduction to this mission, the Witch hunt in the dark and damp alleyways of Mordheim, city of the damned.
I, Luis Alonso de León, have been sent there with the task of seeking out the potential enemies of our blessed faith, and to immediately obliterate any such possible threat. But, whilst doing that, I am also to hunt for the unearthly material known as Wyrdstone, to investigate, and judge it's potentials. For it appears to be a highly valued good, since long within the boundries of Mordheim, but recently the hunger for it is starting to spread throughout the empire. Said to have powers that can easily twist a man's minde and lure him into chaos, it is to dangerous to leave unattended. and so I was send her, as a true keeper of the faith, I should have least difficulty resisting its powers.
I will obviously not go alone into this grim world, for the risk my person would run can not be allowed. therefore I assembled a band of fierce warriors to assist me in my searching out, interrogating, and judging of the possible threat to our faith.
As allways, the scarred Martin will be by my side. Since he came under my care some 14 years ago, scarred by a false Inquisitor, his soul was balancing on the edge of sanity, dwelling on the question wether or not he was indeed to be put to trial or if his soul would endure. But the faith was strong in this one, and he kept true to himself and the gods. Trough our journeys we'd grown experienced, and he'd grown more and more protective of me than the other way around. To such an extend is he protecting me that I can now fully focus on my tasks as Inquisitor and not worry about my back, for I know him to be there, allways.
This time however, is not like any normal journey we've ever been on, in a normal city we could always count on a dose of fear, staying the potential unrest. And if needed, there would allways be backup in the form of highly religious fanatics, who are -though by the looks of them one would think of them as insane- highly dependable and steadfast.
This City of Mordheim, is a different tale all together, though we have our usual fanatics by our side, this place is drenched with evil, so foul it fears none or nothing. By ourselves we could never best any foe we'd encounter here, so -Insulting to our pride as it is- we decided to enlist the aid with yet another Inquisitor. One who has seen fierce battles in the outer reaches of the empire, and therefore as hardened as can be in the arts of combat and punishment. He is a ambitious man, and well known to have his way with the heretic. This man I write of is known as Frederick the fierce. Frederick as well as I has had a very loyal follower for a long time. I do not yet know his name, for Frederick -who refers to him as "his blade" is never away from his side, and allways answers for him. Which has led me to assume that the rumours about this "blade" are true... It is said that he is a Cathayan fugetive who, by chance stumbled upon Frederick just when he was in a most dire need of aid -cornered by 8 heretics amidst a small town of unfaithfull- taking note of the malice in the heretics minds, "the blade" rushed in, and had taken 3 enemies down before even Frederick realised what happened.
A most welcome deed, but I wonder what it is he ran from, and if he is to be trusted, afterall, I never heard him speak, nor state his goals in this empire...
Frederick, appearing as ambitious as a Inquisitor should be, spoke of an old keep in Mordheim, of which he thought he know the location, it is a well defendable safehouse for us, and should be relatively clear of the evil, since it used to be a house of Justice and faith. We should make our way there, and make it our base, from which to operate with precision...
We are closing in on Mordheim, and we have found ourselves in very welcome battle hardened company, though their faith is solid, I am not fully contend with these minds, alas, we need them in battle.
We have been joined by a Warrior priest known as Gregor, and his ever fanatic followers, for now that means some dogs, and 4 religious fanatics claiming to give their lives for the faith... they may do so under my command.
We have closed in on the City of mordheim, and it's stench can be picked up in the air. Tomorrow we shall set foot among the first buildings upon the road to Mordheim, a ghostly scene where citizens still dwell and make their living, whilst deamons and twisted lifeforms crawl out of the darkness that is the spawning ground of Mordheim.
